Innovation

As the space missions became more daring and lasted longer, new ideas and technologies that required hard-core innovation were required. In the Innovation gallery, you will witness the step-by-step development of this technology: from the pioneering equipment and space crafts used in the first space flights up until complex advanced assemblies like the Space Shuttle and International Space Station.

The Innovation gallery marshals an extensive and all-inclusive collection of operational American manned spacecraft: Mercury, the first American manned spacecraft; Gemini, that enabled practicing the advanced manoeuvers required for the Moon landings; Apollo, that carried the first humans to the Moon and back; and the Space Shuttle, that carried out numerous complex missions in orbit. In addition to these amazing feats of engineering, the Innovation gallery contains dozens of 1970s and 1980s technological instruments and high-tech advancements.
